What is www.591-1100.net?

This website has been created to serve as a source of information for those with an interest in the military history of Switzerland - historians, collectors, shooters, reenactors, and more. 

The centrepiece of the website is our searchable database of Swiss rifles, which we have produced by painstakingly digitising the Waffenfabrik Bern purchase books and the delivery information contained within. 

Why 591-1100?

The name was chosen as it is the Swiss Army's ordnance inventory code for 7,5x55mm Gewehrpatrone 1911 ammunition. The design of the website has been loosely inspired by the packing labels used by the Eidgenössisches Munitionsfabrik Altdorf and Thun (MF+A and MF+T, respectively), in terms of font, general layout, and colour scheme. The latter consists of plain white, plain black, and RAL7033 'Concrete Grey', the colour designated to mean 'live ammunition' within the Swiss Army's ammunition and ordnance labelling regulations.
